Biography

Born in Nice, tenor Rémy Mathieu, was a member of Petits Chanteurs de Monaco Choir for 11 years. He studied at the Conservatoire de Nice and graduated in addition from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Lyon (professor Françoise Pollet). He received a scholarship with the ERASMUS exchange programand attended the class of Francesco Araiza at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart. He took part in masterclasses with Alain Garichot, Christan Himmler, Udo Reinemann, Françoise Leroux, Rosemary Joshua, Jean Paul Fouchécourt, and Thomas Moser.

Rémy Mathieu appeared as Tony in West Side Story (Les Solistes Bernard Tétu) and took part in Stravisnky’s Renard (on tour with the Ensemble Justinana). In concert he sang the tenor part in Bach's Johannes Passion with Ensembles Musica and Ensemble Les Surprises. He gained his first opera experience at Opéra Royal de Versailles as Eduardo in the Cambiale del matrimonio.  In 2013 he participated in the concert ‘Jeunes Chanteurs’ (Opéra d'Avignon). Since the season 2012/13, Rémy Mathieu was a member of the Opera Studio of Lyon. There he performed Mosquito in The Cunning Little Vixen and soon he will appear as Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte.

Among his recent and upcoming engagements are Premier Surveillant and Premier Personnage in Thierry Escaich’s Claude and Premier Commissaire in Dialogue des Carmélites, Copland’s The Tender Land, Aboulker’s Jérémy Fischer   ( all at Opéra de Lyon), Graf Albert in Die Tode Stadt (Nantes,Nancy) Roland in les Chevalier de la table ronde (Opéras Bordeaux, Nantes, Massy,Toulon), Laerte in Hamlet and Piquillo in la Périchole (Marseille), Ferrando in Cosi and Siebel in Faust à Avignon, Messagero in Aida, Giuseppe in Traviata (Chorégie Oranges) among other.
