Rivas) at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy and Théâtre de Caen, and on tour at the Festival Musica in Strasbourg and Rome, Céleste (Céleste, ma planète/S. Gaxie) alongside the Orchestre national d’Ile-de-France and conductor Jean Deroyer at Salle Pleyel in Paris and on disc for Gallimard-Jeunesse, l’Hôtesse(La nuit de Gutenberg/P. Manoury) at the Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg. A renewed invitation from the Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse had her sing the world premiere of "Le signe" by Fréderic Verrières.
A native of Timmins, Canada, Mélanie followed a musical path in whichintensive piano playing and singing always intermingled. Voice lessons(Prof. Tina Torlone) and a piano Artist’s Diploma from the Royal Conser-vatory of Music of Toronto led her to a master’s degree in vocal perfor-mance at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, Germany (Prof. B. Schlickand Prof. K. Kelly). Her love of the stage and a prize at the ConcoursInternational de Montréal des Jeunesses Musicales 2002 definitelylaunched her operatic career, offering her her stage debut as Olympia (Lescontes d’Hoffmann )at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg underthe musical direction of Jan Latham-KoenigOther recents roles include Oscar (Un ballo in maschera) at the Grand Théâtre de Tours, la Fée (Cendrillon) at both Opéra de Saint-Etienne and Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg,le Feu, la Princesse, le Rossignol (L’enfant et les sortilèges) at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, Grand théâtre de Luxembourg and the Théâtre de Caen, Ännchen (Der Freischütz) in St-Etienne and Toulon, Gabrielle (La vie parisienne) in a last-minute replacement at the Opéra de Lyon and in Nancy,La Charmeuse (Thaïs) in Avignon and Tours, Nannetta (Falstaff) in Strasbourg...
Since her widely acclaimed debut in 2002 as Olympia at the Opéra national de Rhin, Strasbourg, she has been heard on European and Canadian stages in major coloratura roles such as the Queen of the Night (Genoa, Volksoper Wien, Tours..)Zerbinetta, Lakmé, Adele, Cunegonde, Tytania, Olympia,the Nightingale, Nannetta, Fiakermilli...She has collaborated with conductors such as Evelino Pidò, Patrick Davin, Alain Altinoglu,Jan Lathan-Roenig, Jacques Lacombe,Claude Schniztler, Eve Queler...
Other highlights include studio and live recordings such as Céleste ma planète/S. Rivas with the Orchestres National d'Ile-de-France , Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher/La vierge at the Festival de Radio-France Montpellier (elected “best DVD” at the Victoires de la musique 2008), and for Timpani Records, a recor-ding of Paul Le Flem’s Aucassin et Nicolette as well as Philippe Gaubert’s mélodies in 2012.
