Biography

Paul-Émile Fourny was born in Liege. He joined Gérard Mortier's team at the Théâtre de La Monnaie of Brussels and worked with such film directors such as Gilbert Deflo, Pier-Luigi Pizzi, Yannis Kokkos... Pursuing his career in France starting from 1989, he worked as stage director for Opera d’Avignon, Chorégies d’ Orange, and was appointed artistic and general director of Opera de Nice A true man of the theater, he is well-versed in both the artistic and the administrative sides of production. In April, 2011, Paul-Emile Fourny became the director of the Opera de Metz Métropole Among the operas that he has directed are: Falla’s La vida breve, Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Lehar’s The Land of Smiles ,Bellini’s Norma,  world premiere of Petit’s Sans Famille, Puccini’s Tosca, Britten’s A Midsummer Summer Nights Dream, Aida (all in Opéra de Nice), Verdi’s Rigoletto (Opéra de Nice, Chorégies d’Orange, Thessalonica, Massy), Mozart ‘s Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Nice,Tel Aviv), Dukas’s Ariane and Barbe Bleue (Prague), New York City Opera, Nice), Giordano’s Andrea Chénier (Santander Festival, Modena, Rovigo), Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor (Antibes Festival, Nice, Lacoste,Gounod's Faust (Malaga),Gounod’s Mireille  (Toulon), Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (Toulon, Hong-Kong), Falla’s La vida breve (Saint-Etienne), Puccini’s Trittico (Nice, Macao), Offenbach’s Contes d’Hoffmann (Nice, Singapore), Puccini’s Manon Lescaut (Puccini Festival Torre del Lago), Faust (Tel-Aviv) Don Giovanni (Savonlina Festival), Jeanne d’Arc au Bucher and a new Boheme production.
