Biography

French baritone Boris Grappe graduated at the Hochschule für Musik of Vienna in the class of Prof. Ralf Döring and Prof. Walter Moore, and then joined the Ensemble of the Nationaltheater Mannheim between 2007 and 2012, where he sang most lyric-baritone roles such as Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva, Papageno, Figaro (Barbiere), Donner (Rheingold), Falke, Harlekin, Silvio (Pagliacci), Schaunard (Bohème), Ping (Turandot), Albert (Werther), etc...

He was invited at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli (Carmen), Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussel (Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda), Oper Frankfurt (Mann mit Helm/Verkäufer von Erinnerungen/Blinder Bettler in Juliette by Martinu), Grand-Théâtre de Genève (Puck/La Grande-Duchesse de Gerolstein), Opéra de Lausanne (Lescaut/Manon), Opéra de Lyon (Bobinet/La Vie Parisienne), Opéra de Nice (Roméo et Juliette), Opéra-Comique Paris (Die Lustige Witwe), Rossini Festival Pesaro (Il Viaggio a Reims), Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (The Cunning little Vixen), Ruhrtriennale (Moses und Aron), Staatstheater Darmstadt (Melot/Tristan und Isolde), Théâtre des Arts Rouen (Cosi fan tutte) among others. Lately he sang his first Wozzeck at Opéra de Dijon with the SWR Orchestra Baden-Baden.

He performed in many concert halls such as the Wiener Musikverein, Barbican Center, Cité de la Musique Paris, Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussel; with orchestras such as Les Arts Florissants, La Cappella dei Turchini, Orchestre de Paris, Ensemble Modern Frankfurt.

He sang with conductors such as Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Kiril Petrenko, Dan Ettinger, Marc Minkowski, William Christie, Alain Altinoglu, Friedemann Layer, Christophe Rousset; and stage-directors such as Willy Decker, Achim Freyer, Laurent Pelly, Martin Kusej, Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier.

This season he will return to the Opéra de Lyon for the role of Truck in Le Roi Carotte by Offenbach staged by Laurent Pelly, he will sing Sganarelle in Le Médecin malgré lui by Gounod at Grand Théâtre de Genève, and will make his debut at the Opéra National de Paris (Bastille) in La Traviata (D’Obigny).
